LIFE AT BEST DEVELOPMENT INITAITIVE (LABDI) is National Non-Governmental  Organization (NGO) founded in 2016 and presently operational in the BAY states within the North-East and Northwest. We are dedicated to save lives, alleviate the suffering of children, women, and other vulnerable people; and to maintain human dignity during and in the after math of man–made crises and natural disasters; as well as to prevent and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situation; and to promote the right of children, women, and vulnerable people in the society.

Job Title: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Officer

Department: MEAL

Location: Maiduguri, Borno state

Reports To: MEAL MANAGER

Job Summary:

The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Officer plays a critical role in ensuring effective program implementation and impact assessment. This position is responsible for designing and implementing robust monitoring and evaluation systems, ensuring accountability to stakeholders, and facilitating continuous learning within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and manage a comprehensive MEAL framework to track program performance, outcomes, and impact.
  2. Oversee data collection, analysis, and interpretation, using a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods.
  3. Prepare regular reports and presentations on program progress, findings, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Plan and conduct program evaluations, including baseline, mid-term, and end-line assessments, to measure the effectiveness and impact of interventions.
  5. Establish and manage mechanisms for community and beneficiary feedback and ensure timely response to concerns and complaints.
  6. Facilitate a culture of learning within the organization by documenting lessons learned and facilitating discussions to improve program strategies.
  7. Train and mentor staff and partners on MEAL tools and techniques to enhance data quality and program effectiveness.
  8. Ensure data quality through routine data audits and verification exercises.
  9. Manage the MEAL budget efficiently and in compliance with organizational guidelines.
  10. Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements and timelines.

Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Development, Data Science, Data Analytics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Social Sciences, Project Management, Computer Science).
  2. Proven experience in designing and implementing MEAL systems in development or humanitarian projects.
  3. Strong analytical and data management skills, with proficiency in relevant software tools.
  4. Excellent communication and report writing skills.

Knowledge of project management principles and donor requirements.

  2. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization software (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Kobo Collect, Power Bi, Tableau, ArcGIS)
  • Experience with digital data collection tools and platforms.
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations in data collection and reporting.
  • Knowledge of the Northeast Context.
  • LABDI has zero tolerance to sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), any act of child abuse including sexual exploitation and sexual abuse constitute acts of serious misconduct and are therefore grounds for disciplinary measures, including summary dismissal.
