Save the Children Regional Operations Director’s Field Visit Highlights LABDI’s Community Impact in Magumeri, Borno State

Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI)‘s closed its last project year on a truly encouraging note with a field visit from the Save the Children International Regional Director of Operations, Miyuki Sato, to LABDI’s implementation sites in Magumeri LGA, Borno State.

Beyond the meetings and site tours, what stood out most was the opportunity to listen directly to communities and partners. Engaging with project beneficiaries and key Child Protection and Education stakeholders—including Community-Based Child Protection Committee members, School-Based Management Committee members, Head Teachers, Education Secretaries, and Quality Assurance Officers—provided her team and her first-hand insight into how the Norad – Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation-supported project is strengthening child protection systems and improving access to quality education at the community level.

These moments of shared learning reaffirm why community-centered programming remains at the heart of our work.

LABDI sincerely appreciates Norad – Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation for trusting the organization’s capacity to deliver impact, and extend its gratitude to Save the Children International for their consistent guidance, partnership, and support.

Stepping into 2026, LABDI reaffirms its commitment to deepening impact, strengthening partnerships, and reaching even more lives with meaningful, sustainable interventions.

LABDI Joins Partners to Launch the Second Round of MNCH Week in Borno State

Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI) joined other humanitarian partners and the borno state primary health care agency to launch the second round of the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Week in Borno State.

MNCH Week is a nationwide, biannual campaign that delivers free, integrated health services to mothers, newborns, and children. The initiative provides essential interventions—including immunization, vitamin A supplementation, deworming, antenatal care, nutrition screening, family planning services, and health education on breastfeeding, hygiene, and other life-saving practices—all aimed at reducing mortality and improving overall well-being.

LABDI’s participation in this transformative health drive underscores our strong commitment to enhancing the health and dignity of women and children across the state.

LABDI Reaffirms Commitment to Human Dignity on International Human Rights Day 2025

Today, Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI) joined partners, stakeholders, and community voices to commemorate the 2025 International Human Rights Day — a reminder that dignity, equality, and justice are not privileges, but rights owed to every individual.

This year’s commemoration was more than a symbolic gathering. It was a collective call to action. From advocating for the protection of women and children, to pushing for inclusive systems that leave no one behind, LABDI reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rights of the most vulnerable across Borno State and beyond.

As conversations unfolded, one message stood out clearly: human rights work thrives when communities, institutions, and local actors stand together. LABDI remains deeply committed to strengthening these partnerships — amplifying community voices, supporting survivors, advancing accountability, and ensuring that humanitarian action is rooted in respect for human dignity.

Human Rights Day is a reminder of the progress made, but also of the work still ahead. LABDI will continue to champion rights-based approaches, advocate for safe and equitable spaces, and support initiatives that uphold freedom, justice, and protection for all.

Every person matters. Every right matters. And together, we can build a society where everyone can live in safety, dignity, and hope.

The Horror of Gender Based Violence

Digital gender-based violence (DGBV) is one of today’s most urgent yet overlooked human rights issues. It inflicts deep emotional, psychological, and even economic harm on those targeted. The true horror of DGBV lies in its reach: the anonymity that shields perpetrators, the way online abuse can escalate into real-world danger, and the systemic efforts that push women and girls out of digital and public spaces.

In this episode, we break down what DGBV looks like, why it’s spreading, and how we can confront it together.

Building a Safer Digital Future for Women and Girls

In a bold demonstration of commitment to protecting women and girls, the Borno State Women-Led Civil Society Organizations (BONWOC), led by the Executive Director of Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI), Madam Ladi Clark, convened a strategic gathering today to spotlight the urgent issue of digital gender-based violence (DGBV).

The convergence was done in collaboration with the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and with strong support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). And it brought together a wide range of organizations under the BONWOC umbrella—and partners beyond it—each showing up with purpose and solidarity. Their participation reaffirmed a shared belief that women and girls deserve to be safe, empowered, and respected, both offline and online, across cities and rural communities alike.

More than just a meeting, the session ignited renewed energy and collective resolve. Participants left with a strengthened commitment to collaborate with government institutions, tech stakeholders, community leaders, and grassroots actors to combat technology-facilitated violence in all its forms.

Together, BONWOC and its partners are not just raising awareness—they are building a safer digital future where every woman and girl can thrive without fear.

Breaking the Cycle: LABDI’s Call to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls

Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI) joined government institutions, UN agencies, and civil society partners in Maiduguri as Borno State formally launched the 2025 observance of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

The event, convened by the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with the Borno State Government, brought together UNFPA Nigeria, ActionAid, UN Women Nigeria, CARE Nigeria, Danish Refugee Council, FHI 360, CATAI, CASFOD, Elela-Care, GISCOR, and many other actors committed to advancing protection for women and girls.

At the event, the Executive Director of Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI) and President of the Borno State Women-Led Civil Society Organizations (BONWOC), Madam Ladi Clark, delivered a powerful call for all stakeholders to “UNiTE! End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”

She highlighted that in a region where insecurity disproportionately impacts women and girls, the 16 Days of Activism is far more than a global observance — it is a symbol of hope, solidarity, and collective responsibility. It reflects a commitment to strengthening protection systems, building informed communities, and enhancing coordinated humanitarian responses.

Her compelling address set a clear tone for urgent, unified action to safeguard the rights and safety of women and girls in every space, including the digital environment. LABDI stood alongside national and international partners to amplify this message, especially for individuals in conflict-affected communities across Borno State who face heightened risks.

LABDI remains committed to supporting survivors, advancing prevention efforts, working with government structures, and promoting community-driven solutions that uphold dignity, equality, and safety.

Let us unite.
Let us turn awareness into action.
Let us Orange the World and end GBV.

Swiss Visit

We were honored to host delegates from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Aline Bürki, Humanitarian Adviser, and Ahmad Abdullahi, Humanitarian Program Specialist, during their visit to our implementation sites in Bama LGA, Borno State, last week.

The visit offered the delegation firsthand insight into how the PACT-LAB Project (Protecting Women, Children, and Youths Affected by Conflicts Through Local Actors in Borno State), led by Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI), is positively transforming lives and strengthening community resilience.

During the visit, the team engaged directly with project participants across different age groups, listening to their stories and witnessing the tangible impact of our interventions.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Bama, (Dr.) Umar Kyari Umar El-Kanemi, whose continuous support and collaboration have been instrumental to the project’s success.

Beyond routine project monitoring, the visit served as a valuable learning and reflection platform for us at LABDI – helping us identify opportunities to further enhance the quality, inclusivity, and sustainability of our work.

We extend our deep appreciation to the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Embassy of Switzerland in Nigeria for their unwavering partnership and support, and to our technical partners, Terre des hommes foundation, for their consistent collaboration and commitment to shared humanitarian goals.

Together with partners like YOUTH INTEGRATED FOR POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (YIPDI), we continue to build pathways for sustainable impact across Borno State and beyond.
