“I was always worried about finding solutions for my child, Halima, who was severely malnourished. But now, I am glad she is on her journey to recovery following the treatment we are receiving from Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI).
I am very hopeful that she will look even healthier by the time the treatment is completed.”
— Fanna Ibrahim

For every parent, seeing a child struggle with illness is heartbreaking. For Fanna Ibrahim, the experience was particularly painful as she watched her daughter, Halima, battle severe acute malnutrition.
Like many caregivers in vulnerable communities, Fanna was deeply concerned about her child’s deteriorating health. Each passing day brought uncertainty and anxiety as she searched for ways to help her daughter regain her strength. The effects of malnutrition had become increasingly visible, threatening not only Halima’s growth and development but also her chances of living a healthy childhood.
Hope arrived when Halima was enrolled in a nutrition treatment programme supported by Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI).

Following assessment and admission into the programme, Halima began receiving life-saving treatment and regular monitoring from trained nutrition personnel. Alongside the treatment, Fanna received guidance and support on appropriate childcare, nutrition practices, and the importance of adhering to the treatment plan to ensure her daughter’s full recovery.
Week after week, encouraging signs of improvement began to emerge. Halima gradually regained her strength, became more active, and started responding positively to treatment. For Fanna, these changes brought renewed hope and reassurance that her daughter was on the path to recovery.
Today, while the treatment journey continues, Halima’s progress serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that timely nutrition interventions can have on vulnerable children and their families. Her recovery is not only improving her health but also restoring confidence and peace of mind to her mother, who now looks to the future with optimism.

Stories like Halima’s highlight the critical importance of ensuring that children suffering from acute malnutrition are identified early and provided with the care they need to survive and thrive. Through community-based nutrition services, LABDI continues to support caregivers with life-saving treatment, nutrition education, and access to essential health services, helping more children recover and reach their full potential.
For families like Fanna’s, these interventions represent more than medical treatment—they offer hope, renewed possibilities, and the chance for children to enjoy healthier and brighter futures.
This life-saving intervention is made possible through the generous support of the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF) whose commitment to addressing humanitarian needs continues to improve the lives of vulnerable children and families across Northeast Nigeria.
